I've added a new Projects Page to the main website. It covers my own projects I am working on, project of others that I participate in, and projects I have influenced. Some are just project I really like!

Projects Page

The most recent additions is the 'Actual Scale' projects list; these are projects by other fans (Doghouse, Synapse and Lamenter) who have converted Space Marines into something more appropriate in regard to the 40K background. I have had a hand in these, as Doghouse  (the first to go 'true scale'  - a term he no longer uses) and I chatted about my designs when he first started out. It seems Synapse was also influenced by my diagrams of Space Marine Morphology and Doghouse's pioneering efforts. Though I have never spoken to Lamenter and only recently became aware of his phenomenal 'Artscale' (a re-branding of 'Actual Scale') marines - he too was inspired in turn by Doghouse and Synapse.

Quite a legacy Doghouse has created, and it seems this movement towards proper marines is gaining momentum. All we need now is for TFM to cast up some SM dollies and things could really take off (not sure how you would create them without infringing GW IP but their must be a way.

Hearing feedback is very important to me in developing my ideas. Much of my designs are inspired, and crafted, by chatting to fans on forums before snowballing into a full concept you'll find here. I would like to thank all those who have contributed critiques and participated in discussions over the years, and I would especially like to thank all those who commented on this specific topic. If you would like join in, you are most welcome!

Well... I guess this is where the AFG (Armoured Flesh Golems) or "bio golems" come in. I guess we will have to come with a true scale like design (that scale at least) which gives the figures their own style and look while offering the possibility of turning them into space marines with not too much conversion work.

This is something that needs to be discussed some more over at the TFM forums and I hope we could get doghouse, synapse and some other true scalers (if they are interested of course) to join in this discussion. Since TFM and Sciror are all community based projects (eventhough they are under the leadership of Ed and you respectively) hence some more community involvement would come in handy! 🙂

I plan for the AFG to match 40K 'true scale' marines. I believe that such a size, at the 28mm scale, is appropriate for a marine archetype. As for conversion; it would be easy to change it about (though it may be more of a 'Mark 9' power armour :p). The shins on AFG are thinner than the flares of the 40K style marines and could be bulked up or smoothed out. The question is how to reconcile the two - I imagine that 'true scale' could be married to 'true function' where the power armour design is more functional?

This would make the armour more like the AFG's, and perhaps they could even 'counts as' for many players? Only time will tell, and how the project develops. The recent talk on TFM of rapid-prototyping it very interesting to me, as it may means I become a sculptor!
